World renowned distinguished conductor

To whom it may concern,

It is my pleasure to write this reference for Mr Matthew Souter, who lead the viola section of the European Community Youth Orchestra (European Union Youth Orchestra) during its tour of August 1984 under my direction.

Mr Souter states that he is now starting out on his professional career - (having just finished his studies at guildhall), - which is hard to believe, because he has shown such maturity both professional and personal, that normally would develop after more than a decade of experience in the field.

Mr Souter is a very personable, agreeable and extremely serious young man, luckily not without a dash of humour, - very well prepared, in complete command of his instrument, very musical in the finest way, whom his colleagues - (in this case seventeen very fine violists of ten European countries), respect as a matter of course.

As he enters his professional life, he is accompanied by my blessing, friendship and highest recommendation.
